Zambezi Region Private Lodges: Nambwa, Nkasa Lupala and Beyond

The private lodges of the Zambezi Region are the best way to access the Kwando Core Area of Bwabwata and the Linyanti system of Nkasa Rupara. The guided activities these lodges offer, boat safaris, vehicle drives, and specialist birding, require the infrastructure and expertise that self-drive visitors cannot easily replicate.

Nambwa Tented Lodge

Positioned on the Kwando floodplain in the Bwabwata Buffalo Core Area. Eight tents; each elevated above the floodplain with views toward the river and the elephant-frequented waterhole. The guided programme includes dawn vehicle drives, boat safaris on the Kwando, and afternoon activities.

Wildlife focus: The Kwando floodplain elephant population; hippo; buffalo; lion (Kwando Core Area proximity).

Who it suits: Wildlife-focused visitors; those who want the Kwando experience with good facilities and guiding.

Nkasa Lupala Tented Lodge

On the Linyanti system near Nkasa Rupara National Park. The primary lodge for the red lechwe floodplain experience and the specialist Linyanti birding. Boat drives on the Linyanti in the wet season reach the floodplain lechwe concentrations.

Wildlife focus: Red lechwe; sitatunga; wattled crane; slaty egret; the full Linyanti waterbird suite.

Who it suits: Birders; red lechwe specifically; visitors who want the floodplain experience.

Impalila Island Lodge

At the easternmost point of the Caprivi Strip, the precise geographic junction of Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Accessible only by boat from Kasane or from the Botswana side. The wildlife of the Chobe, Zambezi, and Linyanti systems converges at this junction; the boat drives are among the most diverse in the region.
