Lüderitz
Lüderitz was founded in the 18th century when economic activity such as whaling, fishing, seal-hunting, and guano-harvesting started. It got its name, Lüderitz, in 1883, on behalf of Adolf Lüderitz who decided to buy the bay and the land surrounding it.
Nowadays, it is mostly known for its colonial and Art Nouveau architecture and its location right between the Namib desert and the Atlantic Ocean, making it a German-like town in the middle of the desert.
Lüderitz is also situated only 10 kilometers away from Kolmanskop, a ghost town that was founded to extract diamonds in the 20th century and was then abandoned.
