The Accommodation Landscape
Contents
There is no luxury lodge at the Brandberg itself. The on-site option is a basic campsite at Brandberg Rest Camp, the same facility where the trail begins. For more comfortable accommodation, visitors look to lodges in the broader Damaraland region, most of which are between 30 and 90 minutes from the trailhead.
The Brandberg is commonly visited as a day trip from Swakopmund (approximately 275 kilometres, around 3 hours) or Khorixas (approximately 115 kilometres, around 90 minutes), or as an overnight stop on a self-drive Damaraland route.
At the Mountain: Brandberg Rest Camp
Brandberg Rest Camp is the closest accommodation to the trailhead, sitting directly at the car park where the White Lady hike begins.
What it offers: Basic campsites with braai facilities, shared ablution blocks with hot showers, and a small reception area. There are no chalets, restaurant or shop. Power points may be available at some sites; confirm when booking.
Who it suits: Self-sufficient campers with their own equipment and food. Overlanders. Budget travellers who want to start the trail at first light.
What to bring: All food and water for your stay. The nearest shops are in Uis, approximately 35 kilometres away on the C35.
Atmosphere: Simple and unpretentious. Sitting at the rest camp in the evening, watching the Brandberg turn red and orange as the light changes, is one of the better experiences available at the site. The flora and fauna of the Brandberg Massif page gives a sense of what you might encounter around the camp at dusk.
Within 45 Minutes: Damaraland Lodges
Several lodges in the wider Damaraland region are well-positioned for a Brandberg visit. These are not Brandberg-specific properties; they serve the broader landscape of Damaraland attractions. But their position on the C35 corridor or the surrounding gravel roads puts the trailhead within a comfortable early-morning drive.
Mid-range options in this zone typically offer en-suite chalets or bungalows, a restaurant serving dinner and breakfast, and a bar or lounge. Some have swimming pools, which are genuinely useful after a hot morning hike. Prices reflect the remote location; self-catering is rarely an option.
What to look for: Confirm the distance and road type to Brandberg Rest Camp before booking. Some lodges quote distances that sound reasonable but involve slow gravel roads. Also confirm whether the lodge can arrange an early packed breakfast for guests wanting a 7am or earlier trailhead start.

Swakopmund as a Base
Swakopmund is approximately 275 kilometres from Brandberg Rest Camp via the B2 and C35. The drive takes around 3 hours on mixed tar and gravel roads. Doing the White Lady as a day trip from Swakopmund is possible but makes for a very long day; a return drive of over 5.5 hours with the hike in the middle is manageable but tiring.
More practically, Swakopmund works well as a start or end point for a Damaraland loop that includes a night near the Brandberg. Swakopmund’s accommodation options, from guesthouses to boutique hotels, are covered in the Swakopmund accommodation guide.
Booking
Brandberg Rest Camp can generally be booked directly through the community association or through Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) depending on current management arrangements. Confirm current booking methods before travelling, as management of community-run sites occasionally changes.
Damaraland lodges in the surrounding area book up quickly in peak season (June and July). Book at least 2 to 3 months ahead for travel in these months.
