Itinerary 1: 5 Days. Opuwo and Epupa Falls
Appropriate for: First Kaokoland visit; visitors with limited 4×4 experience; those wanting the cultural and waterfall experience without the full expedition commitment.
Day 1: Windhoek to Kamanjab (420km; overnight at Kamanjab Rest Camp). Day 2: Kamanjab to Opuwo (280km; arrive afternoon; overnight Opuwo Country Hotel). Day 3: Opuwo to Epupa Falls (170km); settle at community campsite; afternoon swim and falls walk. Day 4: Full day at Epupa; Himba village visit (arranged through Opuwo operator); evening at falls. Day 5: Epupa to Opuwo (170km); return south toward Kamanjab.
Itinerary 2: 7 Days. Opuwo, Epupa and Palmwag Black Rhino
Day 1 to 2: Windhoek to Opuwo (overnight Kamanjab; overnight Opuwo). Day 3 to 4: Opuwo to Epupa Falls; 2 nights at community campsite. Day 5: Epupa return to Opuwo; continue south to Sesfontein or Palmwag area. Day 6: Palmwag Concession; black rhino tracking on foot (half day; Save the Rhino Trust guided walk). Day 7: Return to Kamanjab and south.
Itinerary 3: 10 Days. Full Marienfluss Circuit
Day 1 to 2: Windhoek to Opuwo. Day 3: Opuwo to Orupembe (120km on tracks). Day 4: Orupembe to Van Zyl’s Pass approach; overnight on the plateau. Day 5: Van Zyl’s Pass descent; Marienfluss camp. Days 6 to 7: Marienfluss; optional Hartmann Valley day trip. Day 8: Marienfluss to Epupa via river track (180km). Day 9: Epupa; Kunene River; Himba community. Day 10: Epupa to Opuwo; return south.
