Itinerary 1: One Day (The Swakopmund Day Trip)

Vehicle: 2WD; depart Swakopmund 04:30 Note: This works only as a day trip; no overnight at Sesriem. The gate does not open to day visitors until 1 hour after sunrise, so the Dune 45 sunrise opportunity is not available.
Programme:
- 04:30: Depart Swakopmund on C14/C19 (350km; 4 hours)
- 08:30: Arrive Sesriem Gate; pay entry fee; park opens
- 08:30 to 09:00: Drive to Dune 45 (45km)
- 09:00 to 10:00: Dune 45 (post-gate opening; light is post-golden-hour but still excellent)
- 10:00 to 10:30: Drive to 2×4 parking (15km)
- 10:30 to 11:00: Shuttle to Sossusvlei pan
- 11:00 to 13:00: Sossusvlei pan; walk to Deadvlei (mid-morning; correct light window)
- 13:00: Return shuttle; drive to Sesriem Canyon (4km from gate)
- 13:30 to 15:00: Sesriem Canyon walk
- 15:00: Depart for Swakopmund (4 hours)
- 19:00: Return Swakopmund
Best for: First-time visitors with only one day; connects Sossusvlei to a Swakopmund base.
Itinerary 2: Two Nights (The Standard Programme)
Accommodation: NWR Sesriem camp or park boundary lodge (inside gate) Vehicle: 2WD
Day 1 (arrival afternoon):
- Arrive Sesriem Gate by 15:00
- 15:30: Sesriem Canyon walk (90 minutes)
- 17:30: Drive to Elim Dune (5km); sunset session
- Return to camp; dinner
Day 2 (main day):
- 05:30: Enter park (pre-gate; inside-gate guests)
- 05:45 to 07:30: Dune 45 sunrise session
- 07:30 to 08:00: Drive to 2×4 parking
- 08:00 to 08:30: First shuttle to Sossusvlei pan
- 08:30 to 11:00: Sossusvlei pan; walk to Deadvlei; Big Daddy option
- 11:00: Return shuttle; lunch at camp
- 11:30 to 16:00: Midday rest
- 16:30: Elim Dune or second Dune 45 session
Day 3 (morning departure):

- Depart by 10:00 via Solitaire

Itinerary 3: Three Nights (Photography Focus)
Accommodation: Park boundary lodge (guided pre-dawn access) Vehicle: 2WD (lodge transfers to dunes)
Day 1: Arrival afternoon; guided evening activity. Day 2: Guided predawn dune positioning by lodge guide; Deadvlei mid-morning; Hidden Vlei afternoon; Elim Dune sunset. Day 3: Second full day programme; Big Daddy climb; guided ecology walk; astrophotography session (new moon essential). Day 4: Morning departure.
Best for: Photographers; visitors for whom the guided layer adds significant value.
Itinerary 4: Four Nights (Sossusvlei and NamibRand)
Accommodation: Two nights NWR Sesriem camp or park boundary lodge; two nights Wolwedans or Kwessi Dunes Vehicle: 2WD to Sesriem; transfer or own vehicle to NamibRand
Days 1 and 2: Full Sossusvlei dune programme as Itinerary 2 above. Day 3: Transfer to NamibRand (approximately 30km south of Sesriem on C19). Afternoon guided walk. Sunset on the inselbergs. Dark sky session (new moon). Day 4: Morning NamibRand walk; astronomical session. Afternoon departure or second lodge night.
Best for: Visitors who want both the dune experience and the dark sky experience; photographers.
Itinerary 5: Seven Nights (The Complete Namib)
Accommodation: Two nights NWR Sesriem; two nights Wolwedans/Kwessi; three nights Naukluft campsite Vehicle: 4×4 recommended for Naukluft access
Days 1 and 2: Sossusvlei dune programme. Days 3 and 4: NamibRand (dark sky; walking safaris; Tok Tokkie option for walkers). Days 5, 6, 7: Naukluft Mountains; Olive Trail (day 5); Naukluft hiking (days 6 and 7, first two stages of the full trail or custom day hikes).
Best for: Dedicated Namib enthusiasts; hikers; anyone who wants to know the full range of what the Namib-Naukluft Park contains.
