Windhoek Itineraries: 1, 2 and 3-Day Plans

Half-Day (Transit Only)

Arriving late afternoon or departing the following morning.

Afternoon: Check into hotel. Namibia Craft Centre (if arriving by 17:00; closes at 17:30). Walk on Post Street Mall. Dinner at Joe’s Beerhouse (book in advance).

Morning (departure day): Christuskirche and Alte Feste exterior walk (1 hour). Return vehicle; transfer to airport.

Best for: Visitors treating Windhoek purely as a logistics hub.


Two Days (Standard)

Day 1 (arrival): Collect vehicle. Namibia Craft Centre. Christuskirche and colonial architecture walk. Katutura township tour (afternoon; 2 to 3 hours). Dinner at Joe’s Beerhouse.

Day 2 (day trip): Cheetah Conservation Fund (07:00 departure; return 13:00). Lunch in the city. Independence Museum or National Museum (afternoon). The Stellenbosch Wine Bar (evening).

Day 3 (departure): Return vehicle; airport.


Three Days (Extended)

Day 1: As above (city orientation; Katutura).

Day 2: Cheetah Conservation Fund (morning); Daan Viljoen game reserve (afternoon; different experience; game viewing).

Day 3: Full day: Okonjima and AfriCat (240km north; departure 06:00; full day programme; return by 20:00; a long day but exceptional). Alternatively: overnight at Okonjima and return on Day 4.

Day 4 (departure): Return vehicle; airport.

Best for: Visitors who want Windhoek to contribute to the overall Namibia experience rather than just be a transit node.
