Paragliding in Swakopmund

Tandem paragliding near Swakopmund launches from the dune slopes south of town, using the thermal conditions created by the temperature differential between the cold ocean air and the heated dune surface. The flight covers 15 to 30 minutes in the air, rising above the dune crests and looking back at the coastal town, the lagoon, and the dune sea extending inland.

The Experience

Paragliding is the quietest of Swakopmund’s aerial activities: no engine noise, no significant speed sensation, just the view and the sound of the wind. The tandem format means the pilot handles all equipment; passengers simply run a few steps down the dune slope during launch and then sit back in the harness.

The landing is on the beach or on flat ground at the dune base. The experience is significantly less adrenaline-intensive than skydiving and more contemplative; it suits visitors who want the aerial view without the skydiving commitment.

Dauer: 15 to 30 minutes in the air; 1 to 1.5 hours total including transport and equipment. Conditions: Paragliding is weather-dependent; thermal conditions vary by time of day and season. Morning is typically more stable than afternoon. Fog cancels operations.
