Ai-Ais Resort: Accommodation, Facilities and Booking

Ai-Ais is an NWR resort at the southern end of the Fish River Canyon system, approximately 240km by road from Hobas. It functions both as the endpoint of the hiking trail and as a standalone destination for visitors arriving from the South African border (68km to the south) or from Lüderitz and the B4.

Facilities

Hot springs: Outdoor pools at bathing temperature; indoor spa facility; the primary attraction.

Swimming pool: A conventional swimming pool separate from the hot springs; open to resort guests and day visitors.

Restaurant: Serves meals throughout the day; the quality is standard NWR fare (reliable rather than exceptional). The dining area looks out toward the palm trees and canyon walls.

Unterkunft:

  • Chalets: self-catering units with bathroom and kitchen
  • Luxury units: higher standard with additional facilities; limited number
  • Camping: pitches with electricity and communal ablutions

Booking

Through NWR at nwr.com.na. Ai-Ais is a popular destination for South African visitors approaching from the border; it books out in South African school holiday periods (April, June to July, September to October). Book at least 2 months ahead for these periods.

Hiking trail: One night at Ai-Ais is included in the hiking trail permit for completing hikers; this night must be claimed at the resort reception on arrival.

The Location Advantage

Ai-Ais is 68km from the Namibia-South Africa border at Noordoewer. For visitors arriving from South Africa (Cape Town is approximately 800km south), Ai-Ais is the natural first Namibia stop. Overnight at Ai-Ais, use the hot springs, then drive north to Hobas and the main canyon viewpoints.
