Etosha is one of the most accessible wildlife destinations in Africa for budget-conscious travellers and one of the most expensive at its top tier. The gap between a NWR campsite stay and a night at Ongava’s flagship lodge is significant; both are legitimate ways to experience the park. This guide covers what each tier costs and what it delivers.
All prices in Namibian dollars (NAD). Exchange rate at time of writing: approximately NAD 18 to 20 per US dollar. NWR accommodation rates and conservation fees change annually; verify current rates at nwr.com.na.

What Each Tier Delivers
Budget camping: Full access to the park’s circuit roads and floodlit waterholes. No night drives or guided activities. The wildlife experience is identical to any other tier; the comfort level is the variable.
NWR chalets: Private accommodation within the camps; restaurant access; swimming pool. Same wildlife access as camping. The step up is comfort, not experience.
Private lodges: Night drives and walking safaris on private reserve land (Ongava); higher guide quality; more exclusive atmosphere. The wildlife access is genuinely different from self-drive; this tier unlocks experiences the self-drive park cannot provide.
