Skeleton Coast Private Lodges and Fly-In Camps

The northern Skeleton Coast wilderness is served by two Wilderness Safaris camps, each positioned in a different section of the wilderness and offering different landscape and wildlife experiences.

Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp

Position: Hoanib River corridor; approximately 50km from the ocean in the lower reaches of the Hoanib River.

Character: River corridor; desert-adapted elephant and desert lion are the primary wildlife focus; the river provides the visual and ecological structure of the camp’s programme.

Capacity: 8 tents.

Aktivitäten: Desert lion tracking (using research data from Desert Lion Conservation); desert elephant river drives; coastal excursions to the beach; geological interpretation; bird watching in the river corridor.

Stay: Minimum 3 nights recommended; most guests stay 3 to 4 nights.

Skeleton Coast Camp

Position: Further north toward the Kunene River; in a more coastal section of the wilderness.

Character: More landscape-focused than Hoanib; the camp is positioned for coastal wilderness exploration rather than specific wildlife encounters.

Capacity: 8 tents.

Aktivitäten: Coastal walks; geological and ecological interpretation; the northern Skeleton Coast landscape itself.

The Fly-In Circuit

Wilderness Safaris offers a classic fly-in circuit that combines both camps: fly in from Windhoek; 2 nights at Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp; fly north to Skeleton Coast Camp; 2 nights; fly out (or fly north to the Kunene River for an additional experience). This circuit provides the most complete northern wilderness experience available.
