Accommodation at Fish River Canyon is at two locations: the Hobas area (northern rim; main viewpoints) and Ai-Ais (southern end; hot springs). The two are connected by 240km of road. Choosing where to stay depends on your primary interest.
Hobas NWR Rest Camp
The NWR camp immediately adjacent to the canyon rim road. Camping pitches and chalets; the most affordable option and the one that puts you closest to the dawn rim photography.
Camping: Pitches with electricity; communal ablutions; braai facilities. Chalets: Self-catering units; basic but adequate. Advantage: Closest to the main viewpoints; walking distance to the rim road trailhead.
Hobas Area Private Lodges
Canyon Lodge: The most established private lodge near the canyon; mid-range pricing; good guided canyon rim activities; pool; the best private lodge facilities in the area.
Fish River Lodge: Higher end; rim-top chalets with canyon views; guided activities; the most dramatic accommodation position.
Canyon Roadhouse: Funky; themed with vintage vehicles; the most affordable private option; good for independent travellers who want character over facilities.
Canyon Village: Self-catering chalets; family-oriented; good value.
Fish River Canyon private lodges
Ai-Ais NWR Resort
At the southern end; 240km from Hobas by road. Chalets, camping, the hot springs pools, and a restaurant. The natural end-point for the hiking trail and a standalone destination for visitors approaching from the South African border.

Which to Choose
Prioritise Hobas area if: The canyon viewpoints are your primary objective; you are not hiking; you want maximum flexibility on departure timing.
Prioritise Ai-Ais if: You are approaching from the south; you specifically want the hot springs experience; you are completing the hiking trail.
Both: The most complete programme combines one night at Hobas (rim dawn photography) with one night at Ai-Ais (hot springs; canyon floor atmosphere).
