From Windhoek to Opuwo (700km, 8 to 9 hours)

Via Otjiwarongo and Kamanjab: Windhoek → B1 north → Otjiwarongo (250km; 3 hours) → C22 north-west → Kamanjab (420km from Windhoek; 5 hours) → C43 north → Opuwo (700km from Windhoek; 8 to 9 hours total)
The B1 and C22 are tar. The C43 from Kamanjab to Opuwo (280km) is good gravel; allow 3.5 hours.
Recommended split: Overnight in Kamanjab (Kamanjab Rest Camp; good facilities) rather than attempting the full Windhoek to Opuwo drive in a single day.
From Etosha (Anderson Gate to Opuwo, 420km, 5 hours)
Route: Anderson Gate → C38 north → Outjo → C40 north-west → Kamanjab → C43 north → Opuwo
This route connects the Etosha circuit directly to Kaokoland via Kamanjab. It is the most natural routing for visitors who are combining Etosha and Kaokoland; covering them as consecutive destinations in a north-westward direction.
From Damaraland (Palmwag area to Opuwo, 200km, 3 hours)
Route: Palmwag/Sesfontein → various tracks north → Opuwo
The connection from the Damaraland circuit to Kaokoland is via the C43 and connecting gravel roads from the Palmwag area. This is a gravel and track route for 4×4 vehicles; excellent for visitors combining Damaraland and Kaokoland in a single programme.
Opuwo to Epupa Falls (170km, 2.5 hours)
Route: Opuwo → C43 north-west → Epupa Falls
The C43 from Opuwo to Epupa is rough gravel and track in sections; 4×4 recommended; 2WD passable in dry conditions for confident drivers but not comfortable.
