The drives are long, the roads are mostly good, and the remoteness is part of the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From Keetmanshoop (176km south, 2 hours)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Route:<\/strong> B1 south from Keetmanshoop \u2192 C37 west \u2192 Hobas The standard approach from the north. The B1 is tar; the C37 is good gravel. The Quivertree Forest (14km east of Keetmanshoop) is passed on this route; allow 2 hours for both the forest and the 176km drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Keetmanshoop from Windhoek:<\/strong> 500km south on the B1 (5 hours on tar).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From Sossusvlei (530km, 6 hours)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Route:<\/strong> Sesriem \u2192 C19\/C14 north \u2192 Maltah\u00f6he \u2192 D826\/C14 south \u2192 Keetmanshoop \u2192 C37 \u2192 Hobas<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This drive passes through southern Namibia terrain that is rarely visited: the orange escarpment country south of Maltah\u00f6he, and the transition from the Namib to the arid succulents of the south. One overnight in Maltah\u00f6he or the farm accommodation options along the route is recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From the South African Border (68km north, 45 minutes)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Route:<\/strong> N7 (South Africa) \u2192 Noordoewer border crossing \u2192 B4 north \u2192 C37 east \u2192 Ai-Ais and Hobas<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fish River Canyon is the natural first destination for visitors arriving overland from South Africa via the Atlantic coastal route. Ai-Ais (68km from Noordoewer) is the immediate stop; Hobas (another 240km north by road) requires a longer drive or an overnight at Ai-Ais first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From L\u00fcderitz (260km east, 3 hours)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Route:<\/strong> B4 east \u2192 Gr\u00fcnau \u2192 C37 \u2192 Hobas<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u00fcderitz connects naturally to Fish River Canyon on the southern Namibia circuit; visitors completing the Kolmanskop and L\u00fcderitz section continue east to the canyon.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fish River Canyon&#8217;s southern Namibia location places it further from the major tourist hubs than Etosha or Sossusvlei.
