There are no vehicles, no lodge buildings, and no guests beyond the group. It is the Namib experienced at walking pace, which means at a level of observation and connection that no vehicle-based visit can replicate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The name comes from the tok-tokkie beetle (<em>Psammodes<\/em> species), which communicates by tapping its abdomen on the sand, a sound audible to a person lying with an ear to the desert floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Programme<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dauer:<\/strong> Three days, two nights <strong>Group size:<\/strong> Two to eight walkers maximum <strong>Distance:<\/strong> Approximately 15 to 20km per day (variable depending on pace and conditions) <strong>Unterkunft:<\/strong> Mobile tented camps, erected each evening at a new location; full sleeping and bathroom facilities; camp staff provide all catering<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 1:<\/strong> Guided walk from the starting point through the fossil river terraces and grass plains; afternoon ecology focus on desert invertebrates; first camp set up in the open plain; evening star session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 2:<\/strong> Early morning walk; focus on tracking and small-animal observation; the Milky Way is overhead if new moon conditions align; second night camp in a different location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 3:<\/strong> Final morning walk back to the endpoint; breakfast; transfer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who It Suits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tok Tokkie Trails suits visitors who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have a genuine interest in ecology and natural history, not just species sightings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are comfortable walking 15 to 20km per day on soft terrain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Want solitude and an uncrowded wilderness experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are visiting in new moon conditions (the dark sky is integral to the experience)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are comfortable with the bush sleeping situation (the infrastructure is good but the setting is the open plain)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It does not suit visitors who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Are primarily interested in large mammal sightings (the wildlife of NamibRand is present but not the primary focus)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Need a predictable, infrastructure-heavy programme<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have significant physical fitness limitations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Booking:<\/strong> Through NamibRand directly or through agents.
